Before I hurt my back I worked as a "Night clerk" in a grocery store. It's less customer service and more hard labor, as we're responsible for stocking the 1600 case loads that come in every night before 6am.
A case is any package with stuff in it. So one box with 40 cans of soup? That's 1 case. We're expected to be able to put up a minimum of 70 cases an hour.
COF (Certified Orthotic Fitter) working on my orthotist/prosthetist certification. That's prosthetic limbs and orthotic braces (ie: that big brace you see screwed into people's heads to prevent their neck and spine from moving). for you non med people. Started in a private practice which got bought over by a corporation and ended up surviving three different staff changes to the point that i'm unofficially clinic manager (since they don't wanna pay me) It's a good field and I enjoy what I do but private practice is the way to go.
I work in mental health case management. Right now, while working nights, I work as part our agency's Crisis Center. Half of the clients I help are NGRI, or Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity - this means that they are part of a community treatment as part of their conditional release from the courts. On top of them, I oversee any clients staying in our Crisis beds, which are generally people who have discharged from hospitals needing monitoring and support for mental health crises. On top of all that, I field calls for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline providing crisis intervention. It's a fun and rewarding job.
